Description The witness, former Director of Applied Research for Philip Morris, testified as a fact witness on behalf of the plaintiffs. He indicated that he is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer for Applied Power Concepts, Incorporated. He testified that cigarettes cause disease and could be made less dangerous. He explained what his position with Philip Morris entailed and mentioned the names of some of his colleagues. The witness provided a summary of his professional background and the positions he has held. He reported that he had tested such products as Closeup toothpaste, Imperial margarine and Mrs. Butterworth's syrup. He reviewed the responsibilities he had when he worked for Lever Brothers. He discussed some of the work he did concerning the design of cigarettes. He explained why he had agreed to testify against his former employer.
