Description
The plaintiff testified at trial on her own behalf. She indicated that she is a carrier of a disease known as Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, but does not have the actual disease. She provided details of her employment as a flight attendant and her exposure to secondhand smoke while working. She stated that even when a smoking area was designated on flights, smoke traveled throughout the entire cabin. She described her repeated troubles with sinusitis and bronchitis. She never thought that her exposure could cause lung cancer. She recounted how she was diagnosied with lung cancer, the subsequent treatment she received and the reoccurence of the cancer. The witness reported that a physician advised her that the Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency was not contributory to the lung cancer, as the defendants assert.
